We are proud of iGEM IOANNINA 2024 from University of Ioannina, which won the gold medal with the project “Atropos”, at the international Synthetic Biology competition, iGEM 2024 Grand Jamboree in Paris.
iGEM IOANNINA 2024 won the bet to change the plan of the Squadron, with the molecular Atropos that aims to treat encephalitis caused by West Nile virus infection through CRISPR-Cas 13 technology.
In its third participation in the iGEM competition, the interdisciplinary team of undergraduate and doctoral students from the University of Ioannina stood out among more than 430 teams from around the world, winning the gold medal for the first time in its history, along with several distinctions and 3 nominations for special category awards.
The iGEM IOANNINA 2024 team was awarded as the 2nd best team in the Overgrad category for the Best Inclusivity award. The team’s work was also nominated for the Best Infectious Diseases Project award along with the Oxford and Chicago teams, and was nominated for the Best Education award.
